HNIT Overview
Hunan Institute of Technology(HNIT)is situatedin Hengyang, the second largest city in Hunan Province, one of the cradles of Huxiang culture, and the central city of southern Hunan. HNITis a publicfull-timeapplication-oriented university.After beingapproved bytheMinistry of Education of the People’s Republic of Chinain 2007, HNIT was founded on the basis of the incorporation of Hunan Building Materials College andHunan University, Hengyang. In March 2009, the former Hunan Industrial Technology Staff University was integrated into HNIT. As the youngest undergraduate institution that implements the“Excellent Engineer Education Training Program”across China, HNIT is aspired to upgrade itself into a high-level modern university entitled to Master Degree conferment.Based in Hunan, HNIT servesthe local industrial enterprises as well asthe regional economic construction and social development. HNIT is an all-round industry-oriented university with the harmonious integrationof engineering, economics, management, liberal arts, science, art and other disciplines. With a strong ability in science and technology services, it aims at cultivating high-quality talents with solid theoretical foundation,excellentexpertise and skills, strong problem-solving ability, innovation, and social responsibility.
HNIT has three campuses, covering an area of about95hectares, thebuildingarea ofwhich ismore than 560,000 square meters.HNIT possesses theinstruments and equipmentforteaching and scientific researchworth270 million yuan, andalibrarycollectionofmore than 1.69millionpaper books.
HNIT currentlyhas19919full-time studentsand more than 1200teachingand administrativestaff, including more than 120 teachers with senior professional titles and nearly 900 teachers with doctorate and master’s degrees. The university has recruited 6 experts granted the special government allowance of The State Council, and cultivated 6 candidates of“The New Century 121 Talents Project”of Hunan Province, and a wealth of brilliant teachers who win various awards, exemplified by young and middle-aged outstanding talents supported by the Ideological and Political Education Project of the Ministry of Education, national and provincial excellent teachers, members of Academician Expert Advisory Committee of Hunan province, provincial academic leaders, provincial teaching expert, provincial famous teachers with global vision and the like.
HNIT has 17faculties, 2 research institutes, 20 administrative offices, 5 teaching support centersand 49 undergraduate programs. Among them, there are 4 national first-classfundedundergraduate programs,3 CEEAA-accredited programs, 1 featured undergraduate program authorized by Ministry of Education,3 pilotundergraduateprograms of the“Excellence Project”, 12provincial first-classfunded undergraduateprograms,4 provincialfeaturedand key fundedundergraduate programs,5 comprehensive-reform-orientedpilot programs,1 provincial key academic discipline and 4 provincial featured application-oriented academic disciplines (key funded academic disciplines).
HNIT has been committed to the educational and teaching reform with focus on the implementation ofundergraduateeducationquality project.At present, the university has186practice and training bases,1 national off-campus practice education base, 26 provincial innovation and entrepreneurship education platformsand bases, 11 provincial-level excellent practice teaching bases, 12 provincial practice education demonstration centers, 4 provincialuniversity-enterprise cooperative educationdemonstration bases, 1 provincialuniversity-local cooperation demonstration base, 2 national experiment education centers, 11 provincial and ministry level experiment education centers, 1 provincial and ministry levelvirtual simulation experimenteducation center, 4 provincial and ministry level virtual simulation experiment education programs.Besides, HNITpossesses 4 provincial excellent teaching and research sectionsand3 provincial teaching teams. It also develops2 national first-class courses (excellent high-quality courses) and 65provincial first-class courses (including moral education demonstration courses andexcellent high-quality courses).Meanwhile, HNIT has been a council member of the National Engineering Education Alliance of CDIO as well as University Course Sharing League of Eastern and Western China.
HNIT hasbeennot onlystrengtheningacademicdisciplinedevelopmentand scientific research but also promoting industry-university-research cooperation. So far, the university has set up 1 state-local joint engineering laboratory, 15provincial-level scientific research platforms, 2 provincial-level education and scientific research bases and 2 provincial scientific and technological innovative teams. In recent years, teachers of HNIT have undertakenover 2100scientific research projects at all levels and won 56 awards for scientific research achievements.Over2300high-qualityacademic papers were published inperiodicals andjournals.The university hasalsoobtained658authorized patents and published 138academic monographs. In addition to commitment to scientific research, teachers have been attaching great importance to teaching research. HNIT teachers have undertaken 350teaching research and teaching reform projects and won 28teaching achievement awards at or above the provincial level.
With the Board of Trustees, Alumni Association and Foundation as the platformand thefocus on“university-enterprise cooperation and industry-education integration”, HNIT has been cooperating with enterprises by implementing program-based university-enterprise cooperative educational mechanism to meet the needs of local and industrial development. It has successively established cooperation with famous nuclear power plantslike CGNPC,GNPS, LNPSand160renowned enterprisesincludingSNPI, ROYALE Furniture, Hangzhou Prosper,Shanghai Hengqi,New Open Group, Xiangjiao Liquor,ShenzhenUnited equipment,Z-TEK, Hengyang Transport Machinery. Fruitful cooperation has been carried out indegree programconstruction, curriculum development, teaching workforce building, industry-university-research cooperation, scientific and technological services, innovation and entrepreneurship, practice and training, teaching evaluation, and the establishment of scholarship and student aid fund.By jointly building, managing and sharing modern industrial institutes with local governments and industrial enterprises, HNIT has established 9 modern industrial institutes including institutes of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, New Building Materials, Intelligent Security and Artificial Intelligence Control Engineering etc..
Vigorously promoting international exchanges and cooperation, HNIT has established cooperative relations with more than 30 universities and colleges from over 10 countries and regions including the United States, Britain,German,French,Japan, South Korea and Malaysia. HNIT has also obtained the qualifications of enrolling foreign students in China. Since 2014, approved by Ministry of Education, HNIT started to run a Sino-foreign joint education project in Electrical Engineering and Automation in the cooperation with the University of Sunderland,UK.
